In January 2020, Nate Myers returned home to St. Louis to direct his feature-length debut, After We’re Over, which is currently in post-production. In it, a St. Louis activist tries to save her city while deciding if her relationship is worth salvaging by evaluating her past, present, and potential future.
One fateful day, Zelzah (Adrienne Rose White) receives a call out of the blue from her ex, Sazerac (Chris Mollica). It’s the first she’s heard from him since he broke her heart a year ago and left St. Louis to move back home to Long Island. Wearily, she decides to grab breakfast with him, which turns into a day-long adventure where they explore the city of St. Louis while catching up and determining if they should get back together. As the day progresses, the film slips back and forth between the present and the memories of their old relationship in the past. We see both the happy and sad times, the times they built each other up and the times they tore each other down. By the end of their adventure, we see how much or how little they’ve grown in their year apart, and if they’ve finally become “the ones” for each other, or just one of “the ones.”
